Nadi, Fiji - After another banner year which drew a hundred international cruising yachts representing twenty nations on six continents, Fiji Regatta Week at Musket Cove is primed for another big year in 2020. With several new events added to the schedule, the 37th edition of Fiji’s largest annual regatta is likely to be another record breaker and will take place from 11-16 September.
The 2020 Fiji Regatta Week is positioned just months ahead of the 36th America’s Cup in Auckland; an event widely expected to increase the number of yachts cruising the region. With this in mind, event organizers are planning an inaugural cruiser’s rally from Fiji to New Zealand.
Based at Musket Cove Island Resort and Marina in the beautiful Mamanuca Islands of western Fiji - on the doorstep of world class surfing, kiting and diving - Regatta Week has become a fixture on the calendar of many international sailors and has continued to grow in numbers with a capacity crowd of 380 sailors participating in 2019.
“With our safe and protected deep-water harbour, moorings and marina facilities, not to mention our expansive four-star resort and accommodating staff, we are well positioned to offer a world class regatta that is unmatched any where in the world”, says Musket Cove Resort’s General Manager Garry Snodgrass.
“Many of our key regatta sponsors are from the marine industry in New Zealand’s northland, and that’s where most of our regatta participants will sail to after the regatta. With the 36th America’s Cup following next year’s regatta, there is a unique opportunity for us to organize a new cruising rally from Fiji to New Zealand”, adds Company Director William Moffat.
“Fiji Regatta Week is about everyone having fun. This year we are adding a kite boarding division, an event for foiling kites and a standup paddle board race. There will be something for everyone”, claims Marina Manager Patrick Tuiqereqere.
Interested yacht owners, participants and sponsors are encouraged to contact the resort and the Musket Cove Yacht Club. The Notice of Race and entry information for Fiji Regatta Week can be found on the regatta’s website: https://www.musketcovefiji.com/yacht-club-marina
